To celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Goxhill WI decided to hold a Tea Dance with music from the 1950's and a traditional 'high tea' of sandwiches, scones and cakes. Invites were posted through the letter boxes of all the residents in the village and the Memorial hall was decorated with everything red, white and blue. In true WI style members were set to task to produce the refreshments and baking for the tea and I have to say that the years of experience resulted in some wonderful cakes, scones and sandwiches.
We had no idea how many people would come but we shouldn't have worried the turn out was fantastic and we served nearly 300 high teas!
A huge thanks needs to be given to many people for helping make the event such a success and it is difficult to single anyone out, so I will apologise in advance if anyone has been overlooked.
Thanks to-Goxhill Memorial Hall for the use of the hall, Goxhill Parish Council and North Lincolnshire Council for the donation of £300 towards the event, the members of the WI who baked, served, washed pots etc, husbands and relatives of the WI members who were a great help, to Brenda and Vernon who worked tirelessly to make the Tombola a resounding success and to Shirley for the loan of her fantastic cars which had many admirers. Finally thanks to Alyson for all her organisation, planning and for allowing her home to become 'Jubilee Headquarters'. I hope everyone agrees the event was very special and a great success.
